It is very yummy, flavorful and tastes much better than any shop-bought. You can make this sauce with canned crushed tomatoes, but using fresh tomatoes worth it!

This is a very easy Homemade Tomato Sauce recipe made with just a few simple ingredients. This tomato sauce is so delicious, rich, herb flavorful, fresh tasting sauce that you definitely should try. It’s perfectly balanced, healthy, naturally sweetened, without a gram of sugar, low fat, and vegan-friendly!

Ingredients for Homemade Tomato Sauce
- 4 lb (12 -14 medium) ripe tomatoes
- 1 medium (150 g) onion
- 4 cloves garlic
- 4 tbsp. (20 g) olive oil
- ½ c (150 g) tomato paste
- ½ tsp. dried thyme
- ½ tsp. dried basil
- Salt and pepper, to taste
How to Make Homemade Tomato Sauce
- Boil about 6-7 cups of water in a pot on high heat.
- Slice a shallow “X” on top of the tomatoes and core out the stems.
- In a large bowl place the tomatoes, pour the boiling water and let it stay for 30-40 sec.
- Lift the tomatoes out and strip the skins from the tomatoes with a knife.
- Chop the tomatoes into small pieces. Set aside.
- Chop the onion and garlic.
- Pour the olive oil into a large pot or saucepan over medium heat.
- When it’s hot, add the diced onions, sauté for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the garlic and sauté another 1 minute or so.
- Add the tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, thyme, season with salt and pepper.
- Simmer on medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, until the sauce reaches the taste and consistency you like, about 40 – 60 minutes.
- Transfer the sauce into jars or containers and store in the fridge up to 10 days or freeze in zip-bags for months.
